Healthy tips while fasting – Ramadan Kareem
Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and fasting, and worship. Whilst the practice of fasting during Ramadan is a joyous time of community and personal development, it is as much of a mental test as it is a physical one. Although we may differ in how we prepare our minds and bodies, some tips can help to adjust to the daily fast.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of fluids, choose fluid-rich foods to make sure you are well hydrated for the day ahead. Go for starchy foods for energy, choosing high fiber or wholegrain varieties where possible as these can help keep you feeling fuller and can aid digestion, helping to prevent constipation.
Keep your immune system in balance
To make a warm healthy drink/tea, mix black seed oil and pure honey with warm water and enjoy it after breaking the fast. It can be good to ease intestinal gas and helps to keep you’re immune in balance. Has it been narrated by our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said: “Hold on use this ( black seed regularly!) Because it is a remedy (cure) for every disease except death.”
Do not skip Suḥūr
Suhoor needs to be wholesome to provide enough energy to last during the long hours of fasting.
Walk after iftar
Before you fall over from exhaustion after Iftar and dinner, take a short walk around the block or just around your building
Don’t go overboard with eating during iftar.
Whilst it’s tempting to pile your plate up when you break your fast, overeating can put further strain on your body.
Get enough sleep
Sleep aids the body’s reparative process, so you must get enough of it even while fasting.
Please note If you are taking any regular medication, have any health conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is very important to consult with your GP first before planning your fasts. Please make sure you encourage family members to do the same.
