How To Use Ashwagandha Powder For Weight Gain

Ashwagandha Powder

Ashwagandha is a very healthy medicinal and Ayurvedic herb. Ashwagandha is used to treat many disorders in Siddha medicine, Unani medicine, African medicine and homeopathic remedies.

It is widely used across the world to combat difficulties like insomnia (lack of sleep), male sexual problems, female sexual disorders, anxiety, weakness, depression, neurodegenerative diseases and arthritis. Ashwagandha is classified an 'adaptogen', that is, it is a substance that manages stress and creates homeostasis in the body.

Its scientific name is Withania somnifera and it is a member of the Solanaceae (nightshade) family. It is often used as an Ayurvedic supplement. Due to the benefits of Ashwagandha, it has received attention and appreciation from all over the world.

The Relation between Ashwagandha and Weight Gain

People mainly wonder whether Ashwagandha causes weight gain/loss. The answer to this question can be found in some famous Ayurvedic texts.

The Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita describes ashwagandha as bhrimanya and balya, meaning a herb that improves body mass and nutrition; Strength and immunity, respectively.

Ashwagandha is mentioned in the text Sushruta Samhita as a herb that controls malnutrition. Furthermore, in the text, Bhava Prakash cites Ashwagandha as a helpful herb that cures conditions like emaciation and provides strength to the body. All these texts support the idea of Ashwagandha being an Ayurvedic herb that promotes weight gain.

Scientific Research on Ashwagandha Benefits-

A study conducted on rats for three months showed that after feeding the rats ashwagandha, their body weight increased significantly.

Another study was conducted on 57 young men for eight weeks. Two sets of groups were formed here. One set contained 29 male subjects (treatment group), and the other set contained 28 male subjects (placebo group).

Twice a day, male subjects in the treatment group were given 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract, while the placebo group was given starch. After 8 weeks, results showed that the group treated with Ashwagandha had a significant increase in muscle strength and muscle size. Ashwagandha is beneficial in creating muscular bulk, which increases weight. Nevertheless, weight gain due to muscle growth is different from weight gain due to increase in body fat.

The study showed that healthy men who consumed 750-1,250 mg of ashwagandha daily gained muscle strength after 30 days. Thus, modern research also supports the role of Ashwagandha in weight gain.

Instead of choosing Ashwagandha root extract, you can buy Ashwagandha powder at retail stores, or you can buy the powder online through home delivery.

According to some Ayurvedic experts, Ashwagandha powder with milk will give the best results. To use Ashwagandha powder for weight gain, you can follow the procedure given below –
